Anyone have recommendations for web sites were one might find up to the minute index levels for the overseas markets.

I always like to see what's happened overseas before I place my trades in the morning before the North American markets open.

To date I've been relying on CNBC on the TV for most of my info.

Hi Abbeydale. How would RC treat the "professional daytrader" if all the stocks were purchased under a Ltd. company? All the computer equip, SW, etc. expenses be owned by the company and could be written off accordingly?? Obviously, that would not be the primary source of revenue of the company, but wouldn't the revenues be taxed at the lower corporate rate?

A LTD company offers no benefits to you directly. LTD cpmpanies are an apparatus in which you can gain income but donot reduce your personal liability. To achieve the tax benefits associated with corporate Canada you would have to be Incorpoated. Secondly, trying to register the shares in company name, whether LTD or INC would mean you are acting as a buying agent, which probably creates a whole new problem with whether you are licensed or not.
There are no advantages of an LTD over just declaring you are a professional daytrader. The writedown of equipment is the same, the only difference is the company receives the benefit, if you are the only holder of the company than there is little advantage. In fact, if your intention is to trade your own accounts only, then there are no advantages. RC would likely see your LTD company as being nothing more than a cover for manipulating your own trading accounts.

My accountant is away right now, but when he gets back I'll ask him, but I remember him dismissing all of these ideas as "non-advantageous"!
