Not sure from your post whether you see AVID acquiring TEK or the other way around.

Don't know much about TEK, but looking at their site, it is hard to imagine AVID buying them out.

One reason comes from their last quarter's revenue breakout:

$207m -- measurement business
$155m -- color printing and imaging
$57m -- video and networking

Maybe some of the imaging business falls into AVID's field, but if not, only about 1/7 of TEK's business would be of interest to them. And that $57m in revenue is down from $100m last year.

Also, TEK is 3x AVID's size.

Finally, after getting hammered for the SoftImage acquisition, I can't see them going out and doing what the market is likely to think pretty stupid.

One thing is in favor of your idea, though, and that is that AVID stock has not been acting well lately. I attribute that to profit-taking and consolidation after the run-up, but it could also be related to a takeover. We traded down before the SoftImage acquisition was announced.

Another thing for a takeover would be that AVID has traditionally grown by acquisition and they may want to purchase revenues to get back on the growth track.

But TEK doesn't look to me like the way to do that.
