RE: Gingrich's departure.

I cannot imagine how this could be interpreted as good news. In the first two years of the Clinton presidency, the market performed horribly. It wasn't until the GOP Congressional takeover in Nov '94 and the Contract With America (or the Contract On America, depending on your perspective) that the market took off. The best thing for us is to have a healthy legislative check to balance the executive, and for the past four years we have had that check. Looking forward there will be even more aggressive, less tolerant junior GOP reps looking to establish a reputation without much regard as to the economic consequences, and a White House determined to take throw around as much money as possible in order to get back on the constituents' good side.

Joe,
RE:"The hypocrites and the fascists are the only force
behind the republicans these days.

My "real" opinions on the matter have been
promptly deleted long ago from this thread
by a puritan internet cop.

We are no longer living in Henry VIII's time
and as a result Gingrich and Starr and Lewinsky
can live on. What a shame."

Are you suggesting Newt, Starr and Lewinsky be "terminated"?
Now, that's a bit of fascism.
As far as Starr, I'm sure most Criminals under investigation would like to see their Acusor demeaned. Fortunately it doesn't work that way.
