Tonto, thanks. Yes xDSL will speed up copper. But investing in it is akin to investing in improvements to Radio Broadcasting. I was pro Pair Gain until I learned about the hundreds of thousands of switching networks that must ALSO be upgraded to handle xDSL's new bandwidth. And all this is assuming the FCC will allow faster speeds over copper wire. So far as I understand it, 56k modems are faster than the legal limit now. Bottom line, cable is in the lead on broadband by a long shot. And that is why the smart ATT bought the giant TCI and its family of subsidiaries. In the end ATT will be the winner, IMO.

Coincidently, Viewtron's hardware was built by ATT, which holds many patents on set-top box modem transmission devices. Never bet against the blue chippers. Just bought another IBM brand computer and I must say, it far exceeds the competition IMO. Whenever I need a PC from now on, I will always check IBM first. And at Office Max it was cheaper than if I had built a clone myself. And prices are dropping dramatically for Christmas still. What a world.

Thanks again for article,
