Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: DIMD), a leader in interactive multimedia acceleration and PC entertainment, announced today its participation in 3Dfx Interactive's(R) "Power of 2" promotion and new prices for its MEGAMonster(TM) gaming solution.
Diamond Multimedia's MEGAMonster, powered by 3Dfx Interactive's Voodoo2(a) chipset, allows hard-core gamers to run two Monster 3D II graphics accelerators in a Scan Line Interleave (SLI) mode. In SLI, one chipset draws the even scanlines of a frame while the second chipset draws the odd scanlines, dramatically increasing the 3D power and delivering unparalleled speed, resolution and texture to PC games.
For example, in Computer Gaming World's 3D GameGauge, a game-based 3D graphics performance benchmark test, the MEGAMonster 24MB solution received an average game score of 114 frames per second (fps) compared to the average game score of 67 fps on the single Monster 3D II 12MB accelerator.
The MEGAMonster feature allows gaming enthusiasts to have up to double the memory by running either two 12MB Monster 3D II boards or two 8MB Monster 3D IIs simultaneously, delivering enhanced processing performance for today's hottest games. MEGAMonster delivers blistering-fast 3D rendering with performance as high as 300 million pixels per second and support for resolutions up to 1024 x 768 with six dedicated engines for extreme realism.
This high performance configuration results in a 384-bit memory architecture with 4.3 Gigabytes per second memory bandwidth, achieving an amazing 180 million dual-textured, bilinear-filtered, per-pixel MIP-mapped, alpha-blended, Z-buffered pixels per second for the ultimate 3D experience.

The MEGAMonster SLI board must be of the same memory configuration as the original Monster 3D II graphics accelerator and is designed to operate only as a companion board. Additionally, the MEGAMonster add-on board is only compatible with another Diamond Monster 3D II accelerator and cannot be combined with any other Voodoo2-based board.

Diamond Multimedia's Monster 3D II
The Monster 3D II, recipient of PC Magazine "Editor's Choice" award, is powered by 3Dfx Interactive's high-performance Voodoo2 graphics chipset and the 12MB version features four megabytes of EDO memory for the Voodoo2's setup engine and eight megabytes for its two texel engines.
