Perhaps we might put it in this way:

Good Moral Character is the will, discipline and courage to act in accordance with a standard of Goodness, regardless of external circumstances. Simply, it is doing what is right, even should it hurt. It is refusing to take the path of least resistance, thereby avoiding the end of rivers, which is crookedness.
