The Family Medical Leave Act is not a principle, but a mere piece of legislation. It may have presented ramifications contradicting the good principles of the person voting against it.

...

On the other hand one can have moral recourse to vote against a piece of legislation.

Yeah, right! "Moral recourse" to vote against a "mere piece of legislation", eh? Well, as the majority of the public sees it, it has something to do with putting one's money where one's mouth is!

The moral of the story is -- don't spout pieties about "family values" unless you are prepared to demonstrate that your "principle" amounts to something tangible in real life.

Your reply is as good a demonstration as any that the Republicans JUST DON'T GET IT!
