Gdichaz, you say, "All: Is CDMA (and the Q) going to be Microsoft's temporary plaything? Ouch. See quote on RCR site: ‘CDMA is a tiny piece of the market ... So Microsoft is going to play with it for a while, but they're going to get hungry for more,' " So what? There's nothing to say that Qualcomm's involvement is restricted to cdma. Nothing wrong with using the JV to broaden cdma market and then be able to have a piece of the rest of the pie, too. Could be the first thing Qualcomm does to go beyond pure cdma; so long as it's successful that can only be good for the long-term prospects of the company.
