Warning - sarcasm below

I have an idea ! Why don't we estimate an inflated operating earnings number for 1999 for the S&P 500. Hey, its our forecast, we can use any number we want, right ? We don't need to estimate reported earnings, because they include all those nasty charges that don't really count. <G> We can use it to calculate a market PE. Then maybe we can get on one of those neat financial networks and talk about how UNDERVALUED this market is. People will probably think our market PE is very low compared to historical PEs. Who cares if the historical ones are based on actual numbers and include charges ? This is sure to keep the market moving up and it works with the market at any level. <G>

On second thought, I think it has already been done. <G>
