Hi Richard, the concept is evolving, taking on a life of its own before my eyes, but as I envision it, I am willing to throw a New Year's Eve party, Y2K, for the person/persons willing to admit to making the decision to use two digits to express the year in Cobol. I say Cobol because I understand that is where the real problem lies. In fact, the real problem, as I understand it, lies buried, underground, all kinds of chips programmed in Cobol. Why any of them would care what year it is, is beyond me. Why, for example, would the power grid, or the traffic lights, care whether it's 2000, or 1900?

My brother-in-law is a Cobol programmer, he used to work for the Chicago Board of Trade, and the Chicago Housing Authority, just payroll, as I understand it, Cobol is supposed to be a good program for money, and I express no endorsement of the views expressed herein. I like my brother-in-law, but even though he is a smart guy, his perception of the world at large is limited. He's kind of a niche person. On the other hand, he is not the guy I am looking for. I suspect that, at some point, people with responsibility and oversight decided that it was too much trouble to change things, and those are the guys I want to come to the party. The party will be in his/her/their honor. I will also invite whoever turns him/her in.<g>
