Staples (SPLS)/CompUSA merger

I've been mulling this over. Has anyone else given this some thought?

I am generally bullish on the computer retailers/office supply retailers going into 1999. Most are despised right now, except SPLS. SPLS currently has a market cap of about $10 Bil., and they do similar numbers to CompUSA.

It seems that CPU and SPLS would complement each other *perfectly*. I am also sure that SPLS is thinking of a new strategy since its failed merger with Office Depot.

SPLS has a lot of buying power in their stock right now.

Personally, I wouldn't mind a deal like that. And I would probably hold on to the combined entities' stock.

Even though they reported 2 cents above First Call, they shouldn't have added the cautious statements in the same press release as that will probably drive down the price to the mid 13's today. Oh well I guess another long-term investment for me... *sigh*
