jach, I agree with you completely that intense competition does drive down prices eventually. But what you and others are perhaps failing to see is that this new converged market that Cisco, Lucent and Nortel are attacking is huge. Some estimates are that there is $300 billion of antiquated switching equipment that needs to be replaced. That means that even if Cisco loses to Lucent and Nortel, Cisco will still grow at an incredible pace from the $8 billion in revenues that they are at to today.

The difference is that Cisco is a pure networking play, whereas, Lucent and Nortel are encumbered with many other slower growing businesses. So for stock pickers, Cisco is the one to go with because their lower revenue base means they will grow faster on a percentage basis than their competitors.

Within the next 5 years, Cisco is simply a no brainer. Don't fight the flow, man. Even if you publicly disagree with all the bulls on this thread, do yourself a favor and privately buy the stock. You won't regret it.

P.S. Other pure bandwidth plays I'm into are BRCM and RMBS. Any company that attacks bandwidth bottlenecks (within or without the PC) will be a winner in at least the 1-3 year horizon.
