Fred, You are probably aware of the historical differences between the Iranians and the Arabs in the Middle East. It has carried forward all the way from Roman times when the Arabs fought as allies with the Roman Legions back around 100bc-75ad when Rome tried to defend its Republic/Empire holdings along the Euphrates River westward including Armenia and modern-day Turkey (which were Roman provinces at the time). The Romans and Parthians (the ancient name for the Iranians) fought a series of major battles at that time (Remember the famous Roman General Corbulo?) Read the "Eastern Theater" section so f the Annals of Tacitus for some very fascinating accounts of the Parthians/Roman interaction ).

Rome eventually conquered Parthia about 75 years later under the famous military emperors Trajan and Hadrian, and then subsequently withdrew from Parthia around 280 ad when Domitian reorganized the Empire. From that period forward the Arabs and the Irananians have always been on the "opposite sides of the coin" on almost every major issue. So I do not see Iran intervening in any Iraqi War....

Sincerely,

Doug F.
