Thanks for posting that article. If Pinnacle has a good solid product and a price that is attainable by non-corporate users this may fly yet.

The drive they were marketing was selling for a cool 1300 to 1400 bucks for the 6.2 gig if I recall and that was a couple of years ago. They did not get it to market in time and it was out of reach for the average user. Sales were geared to the corporate level or wealth individuals.

If they are willing to sell MORE for LESS they may have a shot at the market. However, with the wide spread use of the CDRW CD ROM drives that are selling at about 350.00 dollars and the storage medium is less than a dollar each if bought in bulk of 50 or more for 650 meg CD storage disk. The masses are going to be buying the CDRW drives. This of course is just my opinion but it makes sense mainly because the price of the replaceable cartridges are very spendy. Besides, you can share a CD disk of family photos or whatever with a friend. Using expensive cartridges would rule this option out.

Look at the jaz cartridges, they still sell for 90.00 a pop. I thought they would surely come down in price like the drives but this is not the case. I have 2 jaz drives one in each of 2 systems and just recently ordered a CDRW (Sony) and 50 storage disks for little more than the price of 3 gig of storage (3) more jaz cartridges.

It is cheaper to buy the a new piece of equipment than to buy another 3 gig of storage on a jaz cartridge. I got in excess of 31 gig of storage for 50.00 bucks on CD's that anyone with a regular CD ROM drive can read.

I just spotted an ad for a Pinnacle Micro CDR drive selling at 465.00 internal and 559.00 external. They are much higher than other drives that also WRITE many times to the disk. So why would anyone be attracted to their product? It is no where near the Sony I purchased and for much less bucks.

Pinnacle needs new blood in the marketing department. Until they are willing to hit the market with a comparable product at a comparable price few consumers will give them a second look.

Also, the DVD recordable will be brought out in 1999 most likely. I read that they will hold as much as 30 gig.The DVD will win over the entertainment industry as full length movies will fit on a cartridge.

Which brings us to the following: Does anyone know of a company who will be supplying the units to home bodies so they can watch them. I see the VCR and VCR Tapes going the way of the 78 RPM... eventually. They have to because the market want to sell NEW and Different equipment. That is what puts bucks in the pockets.

Maybe we can put our efforts into researching some information on the equipment needed to run movies from a DVD cartridge? At least it will take our minds off an ailing company that we had the misfortune to buy into.

It is a long stretch from the current price to the ten dollar level and that still won't get me well... :o)

I hope I am dead wrong but I feel Pinnacle is a little late for the party.

Don't want to rain on anyone's parade but not facing facts would be an injustice as well.

I have my fingers crossed...

Dusty
