As they turned onto the main highway, Muffy noticed a highway sign that said "Las Vegas 87". "Oh, so that's where we are!", thought the easily distracted Muffy. The jeep's muffler rattled loudly as they rolled on down the highway. They passed a couple of people alongside the road carrying a cardboard sign that said "Hollywood or bust". Obviously, these were young actors on their way to hit it big in the movies. Muffy caught a glimpse of the one closest to the road as they zoomed by in the jeep. "Hey, wait a minute!", she said. "I think I know that guy! Let's go back.". Her military escort obeyed her command, stopped the jeep immediately with a loud screeching of tires, and then backed up to where the people were walking along the road. "Well, look who's here", said the man. "What? No way! She can't be here! I thought we killed her off way back in the circus episode when we shot her out of the cannon" said the woman. [Editor's note: if you haven't been following this story all along, then forget trying to make any sense of it. People from various episodes show up occassionally with no logical connection to the current scene at all. But, rest assured that the ending episode will tie all the loose ends together, and everybody will live happily ever after. They have to! It's in the contract.] Muffy couldn't remember where she had seen them. That last session with the little brown pills had wiped out a good portion of her short term memory. "Hey, you guys need a ride?" she asked. "No thanks," said the man. "We've already been in your story, and it wasn't a pleasant experience." The man and woman then turned at right angles to the highway and walked off into the desert. "Well, that's gratitude for you!" muttered Muffy. Her military escort, recognizing that the situation was a painful one for his passenger, reached over to console her. Muffy melted into his arms, her heart pumping rapidly. She gazed into his eyes. She took his hand and kissed each finger gently. She began sucking on his thumb. The sound of the helicopter overhead interrupted the activities. It was the Channel 5 News Chopper. "You guys see a couple of folks anywhere out here?" asked the pilot over the loudspeaker. Muffy pointed to the direction the couple had walked and immediately went back to sucking on her escort's thumb. However, her escort was fully aware of the military repercussions which would befall him if the chopper pilot were to report back to headquarters about the erotic scene he had witnessed. The embarrassed escort quickly shoved Muffy out of the jeep where she landed on her very sore butt (remember the cactus splines?). The jeep took off back towards the base in a cloud of dust. So, there sat Muffy, rejected again. The chopper pilot had witnessed the entire episode, and saw her now sitting there by the side of the road. He lowered the rope ladder so she could climb up. Muffy sighed deeply, grabbed onto the rope ladder, and began climbing up to her next big adventure. Let's see ... we have Muffy and we have a news chopper pilot who was looking for a couple along the road. The jeep is gone, and the couple the pilot was looking for are headed off in "that" direction (where Muffy pointed). They're about 85 miles East of Las Vegas. Muffy hasn't had any for several episodes. What will happen next? Will Muffy find true love? Will she be reunited with yet another childhood friend? Will she and the pilot stop off at a casino to try their luck? Will the pilot get lucky? Will Muffy's investments yield sufficient income for her to live comfortably until she finds Mr. Right? Will the producer find another sponsor to pay the authors' salaries? There's only one way to find out. Tune in next week at the same time, same station, when Muffy asks in her most innocent voice ... "Are you sure it's safe to reuse that thing?"
