Dell, Kodak Combine Digital Cameras and PCs for the Holidays; Holiday Photos and Greeting Cards Expected to Fill Digital Stockings

ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 1998--Two of the most popular high-tech items for the holidays this year are expected to be PCs and digital cameras. Dell (Nasdaq:DELL) and Kodak (NYSE:EK) are working together this season to help customers bring the two together.

Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL), the world's leading direct computer systems company, and Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE:EK), the world leader in imaging, today announced a marketing agreement that will enable Dell to sell and ship Kodak's leading digital camera with Dell(R) Dimension(R) desktop PCs for home and small business customers. Dell will also include the camera under Dell's standard system three-year limited warranty(a) and 24-hour, toll-free hardware phone support.

The Kodak DC210 Plus digital zoom camera is available now with Dell Dimension PCs for an optional $499 upgrade. A sample configuration and price for a Dimension XPS R400 with camera is $2,786, which includes an Intel(R) Pentium(R) II processor at 400MHz, 96MB of memory, 17-inch (15.9 viewable) monitor, 12.9GB hard drive, 8MB of video memory, high-end audio, USB-controlled speakers, 56K v.90(b) modem, 100MB internal Iomega Zip drive and color printer. The system also includes Microsoft Windows 98, MS Home Essentials, Kodak Picture Easy software and Adobe Photodeluxe. Entry-level Dimension configurations with camera begin at $1,698.

"We're hearing from more Dimension customers who want digital cameras to develop Web sites for their business or to send photographs to friends and relatives over the Internet," said Janet Mountain, vice president of Dell Dimension product group.

"In addition to the cameras, many customers are looking for expansive hard drives and removeable storage devices to maintain the images, and large, high-resolution monitors to help edit their photos. Dell consistently leads the industry on prices for PCs with advanced features."

Dell and Kodak believe the Dimension-digital camera combination will appeal this year to customers who are looking for new ways to send holiday cards, photos and season greetings over the Internet. A recent Dell/Harris & Associates survey found that 60 percent of PC users are likely to send messages or photographs to family and friends this holiday season.

"Digital photography is a natural fit for Dell's experienced and savvy Dimension customers," said William Jackson, director, worldwide OEM marketing, digital and applied imaging, Kodak. "And Dell has put together a great combination for the holdidays -- the camera, computer and software to help families share their Christmas memories immediately with family and loved ones all over the world."

Dimension is Dell's powerful line of desktop PCs for home and small business customers. As the industry's most award-winning desktop PC this year, Dimension consistently brings to market the latest technologies like DVD and advanced graphics solutions. Mohan-san:

Dell will be selling to the average Joe's even without trying. And Christmas is even better. This is the reason:

DELL (NASDAQ:DELL - news) holds the distinction as a business PC seller but we think those same people go home and may think of buying DELL for gifts and themselves this holiday season. DELL now reports selling $6 million per day of PCs via the Web. It was just $1 million a day a year ago and that was thought to be phenomenal at the time.

An excerpt from today's IBD:

Dell Computer broke out of a six week base late Monday. "Dell computer's growing their reveenue and their earnings at over 50% a quarter," Minervini said. "They have a 79% return on equity. And I think their franchise is getting stronger."

For those contemplating of selling Dell, that same article says: DON'T ROTATE INTO JUNK", which means: if you sell Dell, use the money to buy Dell!!

Regards

Paul.
