The boy is now so bold he doesn't even leave it to his minions to spread the lies. He went to a black church just before the elections and stood in the pulpit and preached the lie that Republican thugs were going to the polling places to intimidate blacks.

I did not ignore "the veracity" of his statement.

Since Nixon Republicans have used race as a campaign tool in order to mobilize their (white) rural and suburban supporters against the Democrat-voting urban poor--i.e. minorities. That strategy worked so well for a while and polarized the nation so much that now Democrats can use race to to mobilize urban blacks and Latinos against the perceived (and in my opinion, illusory) threat of allegedly white supremacist Republicans wanting to bring back the 50s. Republicans play into their hands by espousing a conservative social agenda.

I'm not making any value judgments here. I'm not saying all Republicans are racist just because their leaders have subtly used race as a campaign tactic. Politics are politics and sleazy, racially charged campaigning is used by both parties.
