From Sharky Extreme, buried in the comments on the CPU pricing update.

"Speaking of news, did everyone read the quick shot from Forbes about the "3Dfx Avenger" yesterday? Those NDA-violating scoundrels. I guess when you have Forbes' legal team you don't need to fear Non Disclosure
Agreement violations and legal prosecution like Sharky Extreme's lawyers do.
There's nothing we're allowed to say about the Avenger until the first day of Comdex (unless we can get early permission, believe me we're trying) but we'll tease you a little and comment to the effect that
what takes a current Voodoo2 card three clock cycles to achieve currently "might" *lawyers note the usage of might here* only take one pass with the new chip. You heard me correctly folks, it's "chip" this time, not chipset. Throw in 32MB of DRAM and both 32bpp ZBuffer and final color rendering, and the Avenger part begins to take shape."

Sounds very promising if it pans out.

Eric

A Snippet....

...from a NB Montgomery report dated this morning entitled: "Multimedia and Memory Impressions from the AEA." I can't post a link because it's a service you have to log in to.

We visited with a number of multimedia companies at the conference. 3Dfx Interactive (TDFX-$14-HOLD), the leader in high performance graphics accelerators, is seeing somewhat stronger demand for its new Banshee graphics accelerator than anticipated. There is no change to our forecast of 1.2 million Banshee units this quarter, but at the margin, the news is positive. The company just announced a design win at Gateway Computer, which has been in the works for some time and is in current management guidance. In addition, Diamond Multimedia (DIMD-$6-11/16-HOLD), the largest distributor of 3Dfx graphics boards, has largely sold out of its Banshee boards for the quarter, though it is still working off older Voodoo II inventory. And finally, last week the company got an excellent review from a trade publication, putting their graphics performance well ahead of NVIDIA's TNT and Intel's i740. Risk for 3Dfx remains in its ability to get out the Banshee II, which will have advanced AGP-2 and video playback functions, set to ship in volume in the second quarter of next year.
