Compaq Cuts Prices Up to 17% on
Popular and Powerful Presario Internet
PCs

Some Models up to 211% Faster Than Competition

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 1998--Committed to offering the best value to consumers this
holiday season, Compaq Computer Corporation today announced price cuts of up to 17 percent on
some of its most popular Presario Internet PCs sold in the U.S.(1) Two of the models -- the Presario
5050 and 5150 -- which are up to 11 percent lower than similarly configured HP Pavilion models, yet
deliver up to 211 percent better performance, now deliver an even greater value.

The prices below reflect a $100 mail-in rebate offered on new Presario desktop models when users sign
up for a Compaq Easy Internet Access free trial.(2) Consumers can save even more, up to $100 cash
back, beginning November 11, when they purchase a complete Compaq-branded home computing
system (computer, monitor and Compaq color inkjet printer).(3)

Desktop Model Old Price(2) New Price(2) Percentage Reduction
Presario 5050 $ 999(2) $899(2) 10%
Presario 5150 $1,199(2) $999(2) 17%
Presario 5170 $1,499(2) $1,299(2) 13%
Presario 5660 $2,199(2) $1,999(2) 9%

delivering the best value, performance and technology in the sub-$1000 category. For example, the
Compaq Presario 5150 recently outperformed the similarly configured HP Pavilion 6360 in industry
standard tests(4), which is 10% higher priced.
