zebs,
Furby is an animatronic 'gremlin-like' creature with a certain
amount of artificial intelligence (looks like a ball of fuzz with
moving eyes, ears and feet). It speaks its own language called Furbish
but can gradually be persuaded to speak English. It has touch sensors
on its body so it can make credible responses to its owner. It also
has infra-red links for communicating with other Furbies and can pass
on a cold to them (one sneezes then the others will too). It dances,
it sings, it passes wind (both ends apparently).
There's a lot more info on web. For example, try the Grand Toy
site at www.grand.com or check-out the Hasbro site or just enter
'furby' in your search engine - it's hitting the auction sites at
ridiculous prices.
Also, there is a good article on the story of its development
in the September 'WIRED' magazine.

Hope this helps.

Frank
