Fujitsu Announces Japan OEM Agreement With Network Appliance

Business Wire - November 10, 1998 00:30

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 1998--

Partnership to Deliver Enterprise Information Solutions to Customers in the Rapidly Growing Network Attached Storage Market

Fujitsu Limited and Network Appliance, Inc. (Nasdaq:NTAP) today announced an OEM agreement by which Fujitsu will market, sell and support
Network Appliance's industry-leading storage technology products in Japan through its direct and indirect domestic sales organization.

Through today's alliance, Fujitsu -- a leader in information technology products and solutions for the global marketplace -- becomes Network Appliance's
first Japanese OEM (original equipment manufacturer) customer. Fujitsu also named Network Appliance as Fujitsu's long-term technology partner for
network attached storage (NAS).

Fujitsu will provide its customers with integrated network attached storage systems, called "filers," that feature Network Appliance(TM) technology for
managing both Unix(R) and Windows(R) -based heterogeneous enterprise storage environments. Filers offload file access from general-purpose computer
servers and speed access to the data for users across a network. Network Appliance is the recognized leader in dedicated data-access and storage
appliances.

"We believe that Fujitsu's market presence, commitment and experience in the open systems marketplace -- as well as its established reputation as a leader
in information technology for the global marketplace -- is a perfect complement to our business strategy," said Dan Warmenhoven, president and CEO of
Network Appliance. "Working with Fujitsu, we can provide businesses with a proven industry-leading solution."

"Network Appliance provides the leading high-performance data management solutions needed for today's heterogeneous network environments," said
Masahiro Saida, senior vice president, Computer Systems Group and general manager, File Systems Division.

"As the data volume across enterprise information systems continues to expand, our customers are able to use Network Appliance's technology to build
the most effective and efficient storage management solutions to share data among Unix and Windows environments. We expect to expand our relationship
with Network Appliance in Japan into new markets and areas across our entire customer base."

About Network Appliance, Inc.

Network Appliance (Nasdaq:NTAP), a veteran in network file serving and caching, has been providing data access solutions for over six years. Major
corporations and ISPs, including Bear Stearns, Yahoo, Siemens, Lockheed, Cisco, Motorola and Texas Instruments have deployed NetApp(R) solutions.

NetApp's file servers (called "filers") and Internet caching solutions (NetCache(TM)) deliver fast, simple, reliable and cost-effective access to
network-stored data and enable simultaneous shared file services for UNIX, Windows and the World Wide Web.

The company pioneered the concept of the "network appliance," an extension of the industry trend toward dedicated, specialized products that perform a
single function. Network Appliance filers and NetCache appliances are based on the Company's patented data access solution known as Data
ONTAP(TM) software and standards-compliant hardware. More information is available at: www.netapp.com.

This press release contains certain forward-looking statements that involve risks and uncertainties including the development of the filer market. Factors
that could cause or contribute to such risks and uncertainties include those discussed in the sub-section entitled "Other Factors Affecting the Company" in
NetApp's Annual Report on Form 10K.
