I have evaluated most of the cook-book e-commerce "solutions" and found that they would be nice to get a basic site up quickly but just don't offer the flexibility and control I need. Lately I have concentrated on Cold Fusion and now DrumBeat along with DreamWeaver and Homesite. I can use developed scripts or scriplets for most of the CGI and Java scripts I intend to use but need to modify them to work smoothly with the site. Some of the marketing related "technology" will be custom. I am not going to get into writing basic scripts as it has been years since I would call myself anything close to being a programmer - it would take full time to stay up with the field leaving no time to plan and operate a business. Because I am a nut and am on a tight budget, I am not hiring out most of the work - I need to be efficient with my limited resources and develop in-depth knowledge of the under-pinnings of the site. Maybe that is a knuckle-headed approach but that's me. Daxn, I wish I had plunged into it full-time two years ago when I first started studying it.
