I was at Oracle Open World yesteray and it appears 60 minutes is going to do a story on Scott  McNealy. He spoke yesterday at OOW and that is where I heard about the 60 minutes story.

Addi Jamshidi

I know that SUN supplies servers to E*Trade and Egghead. I would imagine they are to Ebay as well. I agree with you that SUNW is a great investment. SUNW has held up pretty well even during market downturn. I am expecting a split soon.

I've been on Ebay for a while... I'm pretty sure ebay was operating with some sort of NT system till not so long ago... I remember about a year ago, when Ebay's system was having a lot of problems, reading on their "announcement" page that they were having problems with their "NT servers" and were not having much luck getting help from the Microsoft rep... A few months later they indicated they were in the process of looking at new systems... then they did indicate that they were using a Sun system shortly there after... I remember they were proud of it and said it was the system just below a Starfire and included some reference to the starship Enterprise and Spock as humor... Anyway, Ebays major troubles seemed to straighten out after that... they do seem to be having some problems recently... I wish I would have saved some of those early Ebay announcement pages.. The other day Ebay went down for a few hours.. It was not good...Imagine having an auction and Ebay goes down in the last few hours of the auction (which is when the best bids come in).. Sellers are Very Very upset when this happens... Ebay does extend the auctions but it still causes problems... they used to take their servers down for 4 hours once a week... not sure if they still do, but I can't imagine customers are very happy with that either... with Sun servers and Unix it would seem they wouldn't have to do that to much...???

I just can't imagine Ebay is worth 5.5 billion... I got lucky and got some shares at the New issue offering price ($18.00)... but they are long gone.. Selling to early is a bad habit.. Glad I've held my Sun..

I keep a copy of a Trade Confirmation of mine right here near my computer where I can SEE it... I use it to try and beat it into my head to NOT SELL EARLY!... anyway the trade was for 100 shares of MSFT at 29.5... the trade date... 03/14/86.. I was 24 years old and enlisted in the Navy...

If only I.......

Roger

If you check out E-Bay's help wanted ads they are looking for Solaris system administrators - ergo they are using Sun Servers like most other commercial web sites.
