As a shareholder, I would prefer if the "manipulation" of the stock continued. The ones whining about ebay are the ones who didn't take the risk to buy last month.

Let's see, did the SEC do anything in the past 70 years to alter any manipulation of stocks by the big houses? Probably not unless someone here has some historical facts. In any case, the last small guy buying the 50 and 100 shares will ultimately have to pay the piper.
I wonder what the SEC is really doing? In Canada, a stock that rises this fast will be halted and have to give some explanation to the exchanges as I believe is normal, but in Vegas, sorry, I mean Nasdaq, a stock can rise 100 fold per day and yet no halt, no explanation, nada! Don't US citizens deserve better protection?

From the Goldman release:
The release said eBay blends the best of the visibility and high margins of Yahoo Inc.'s (Nasdaq:YHOO - news) advertising model with the revenue momentum of Amazon.com Inc.'s (Nasdaq:AMZN - news) commerce model.

--The company's 1999 and 2000 revenue estimates are $84.2 million and $125.7 million respectively.

And from the profile on ebay on yahoo site:
eBay Inc. operates an online person-to-person trading community in which buyers and sellers are brought together in an auction format to trade personal items such as antiques, coins, collectibles, computers, memorabilia, stamps and toys. For the six months ended 6/30/98,
revenues totalled $14.9 million, up from $1.7 million. Net income fell 56% to $215 thousand. Results reflect growth in the number of items listed for auction, offset by higher marketing and personnel costs.

Now can someone explain to me how this company is going to go from 30 million per year to 120 million in two years? Oh yeah, China will be logging in anytime now. While these number are speculative, isn't funny Goldman said nothing about earnings and how much profit they expect to make. Hmmm.

Oh, I'm not long, not short, not interested in this stock other than I've seen too much crap, sorry hype, that many newbies tend to take as facts. Ethically, whether you agree or not, I feel it only fair I put in my opinion just as many of those hyping the stock have.

wah. name another company that has earnings growing this fast and has just come public with this much attention. I wonder why they trade so much. It is the individuals that are doing it. Underwriters don't have enough shares. Besides, isn't illegal for them to trade yet anyway?
