All -

Funny thing about the "average computer" today. We see a lot of "pundits" opining about how removable storage is less necessary today because the "average computer" ships with an 8 gig drive or bigger.

What this observation ignores is that the average computer user is not using a computer that shipped today. Most people keep their computers for at least a few years before upgrading. So what the "average computer" has is a hard drive considerably smaller than what the average computer ships with today.

People upgrade software much more often than they upgrade whole computers. Which means that today's bloated software is seriously depleting the storage space of yesterday's computers on today's desktops.

Gee, could that be one reason why Iomega is able to sell so many Zip drives at retail? (And they do sell those retail drives at a profit, you know.)

"This is PLENTY of room to store downloads off the Net. Backup? Archive? Most people don't do it (regardless of whether they should)."

Whoa, now, you're talking about a service that is PAID to store people's data. If these companies did not backup their data and lost it, they're out the door, and the proprietor had better be on his way to Brazil.

At least look at the post you're responding to, maybe even the post it's responding to, then make your silly statements.

You have been concentrating so much on degrading Zip, but no mention of Click!..not to mention other products that may be in R&D. True, Zip is the main product for IOM at this point. This, however, can change in a moments notice.
