To All, Has anyone else noticed Apple's return to Best Buy with the iMac? I didn't see that in any of the posts recently, or is this old news.

iMac Discounts? Hardly! Why not gouge 'em!

Jeeze, I just got this by the Apple iMac listserver:

<<...For as little as $29.99* a month, you can own the computer that
has set new standards for speed, design, and simplicity.
><

iMac. It makes a great gift for your parents, your kids, or
yourself. And at $29.99 a month, it's the most affordable computer
in town.

><
* Based on the Estimated Retail Price of $1,299, tax and shipping
not included. 67 monthly payments of $29.74. 14.89% Annual
Percentage Rate, subject to increase or decrease. Payments deferred
for the first 120 days subject to interest of $35.44 and loan
origination fee of $54.13 charged on day 91. No prepayment penalty.
On approved credit. Internet access requires an account with an
Internet service provider (ISP), fees for which are not included.>

Maybe I'm too squeamish about taking money from the stupid-

1) 67 payments is 5 1/2 years!
2) 67 * $29.74 = $1,992.58
3) that's damn near $700 in financing for a computer that will be obsolete 3 years before it is paid off.

Maybe that is how the game is played, but it doesn't feel good to me. At 14.89 %, my credit card looks like a better deal. Think different?

I was hoping that Apple was going to offer a christmas financing deal to bulk up volume and market share. This is not that!
