Yet big money keeps flowing in it. eBay Inc. operates an online person-to-person trading community in which buyers and sellers are brought together in an auction format to trade personal items such as antiques, coins, collectibles, computers, memorabilia, stamps and toys. For the six months ended 6/30/98, revenues totalled $14.9 million, up from $1.7 million. Net income fell 56% to $215 thousand. Results reflect growth in the number of items listed for auction, offset by higher marketing and personnel costs.
