I've had the same experience. I just had a cable modem installed so I was expecting high speed surfing, but SI was still incredibly slow. Other sites seemed fast, but everytime I came to SI things slowed way down.

I was using IE4 so I thought I'd try Netscape 4. Guess what? Everything speeded up including SI. Now I'm using Netscape for everything. So... try switching browsers. Don't know why this makes a difference but you might want to give it a try.
