Marden: "Pipped at the post", means beaten by a nose in horse-racing. The quote you gave was "pipped to the post". I suppose they had to corrupt it to make it fit the very different meaning they gave it, which is that Dell has beaten CPQ out of the starting gate.

RE: Dell has pipped bitter rival Compaq to the post by announcing a migration programme which will allow its corporate customers to move to Windows 2000

This guy is clearly shilling Dell for some reason - a few facts

1) CPQ is the EXCLUSIVE hardware partner for MSFT Rapid Deployment of NT5 (now Windows 2000)

2) CPQ is the EXCLUSIVE provider of hardware to the MSFT NT5 application compatibility test lab

3)Every CPQ desktop is pre-certified for NT5 as a result of this activity and is the only hardware already certified by MSFT for NT5.

4)The NT5 beta he refers to will not be out until Feb 99 - is that when thanksgiving occurs in the UK?
