Qualcomm, Microsoft Confirm
Joint Wireless-Services Venture

Dow Jones Newswires

REDMOND, Wash. -- Qualcomm Inc. and Microsoft Corp. confirmed they
have formed a joint venture company, WirelessKnowledge LLC, to provide
secure Internet access to mobile users.

Microsoft said the venture, to be based in San Diego, will form strategic
partnerships with computing, software and telecommunications companies as
well as wireless carriers.

Microsoft said initial WirelessKnowledge service
offerings will be available on an OEM basis to
wireless carriers in early 1999. These services
will include data services to maintain messaging,
e-mail, calendar, contact list and basic
information services through the Internet, plus
access to exchange-based corporate networks.
Additional features and services will be added
over time.

The joint venture was originally reported on CNET's News.com site.

Microsoft said WirelessKnowledge's services are built on an end-to-end
architecture based on industry-standard technologies, including its Windows
CE operating system, the Microsoft BackOffice software system and the
Microsoft Commercial Internet System.

These services will be accessible over all digital wireless wide-area networks,
including networks based on code-division multiple access, or CDMA,
technology, GSM, TDMA, CDPD and Mobitex.

Microsoft said it will work with Qualcomm through WirelessKnowledge to
pursue integration of Windows CE into a future Qualcomm application-specific
integrated-circuit, or ASIC, chip and a range of voice- and data-enabled
wireless devices.

The companies will also collaborate to accelerate innovation and adoption of
wireless Internet capabilities using existing and developing standards such as
XML, HTTP, VoIP and CDMA IS-95A, IS-95B and IS-95C specific standards
and Qualcomm's high-data rate CDMA technology.

wireless, Landis said the much of the world's population still lacks basic ''connectivity'' and that wireless infrastructure would likely be the choice to build out their communications systems. Numerous companies positioned to dominate are currently selling at reasonable multiples because of the Asian financial crisis. Qualcomm (Nasdaq:QCOM - news) is well positioned, Landis said, as is P-Com (Nasdaq:PCMS - news) among smaller companies providing wireless subsystemshttp://biz.yahoo.com/bw/981110/informed_i_1.html

Here a guy who thinks the Q is undervalued.

Mqurice....Love the slick website.Great logo. The whole thing is unbelievable. Wish I could understand it. I think I'll listen to the call again tomorrow. Suggest those of you who haven't take the time to do so. Even if Jon's not excited I got the impression that those involved were, that these guys were enjoying a mutually respectful partnership, and that they've got BIG plans. .. Money is no problem..looking for more strategic partners...hmmm.

This a GREAT DAY. Why don't you guys stop bickering. I think the analysts'll get the idea.

Limitex..I hope you said your Goodbyes. No more trips back home. ..Sorry
