Kevin, As it happens I live near an IBM finance guy and just had a conversation with him about the program as well as H-P,s who also initiated a finance program. You are intuitively right that currency controls in Malaysia, fluctuating rates elsewhere, etc etc, have been difficult to manage. From the conversation both companies are using the programs to shore up old, long term relationships, ( a sort of "hand indeed" strategy) and the general rationale is that it is a good thing to do. best, Stitch
