gue,

Thanks for posting the link to the article.

I'd be interested in hearing from people in the software biz about that article. I noticed that it didn't address scalability.

Tom Kippola, one of the authors of Gorilla Game, feels there will be an entire battlefied devoted to competing for the mid-tier companies, those doing a lot less business than the prospective customers of the leading SFA cmopanies. I wonder if the kinds of products mentioned in the article might be more oriented to the smaller customers than those which Siebel has traditionally gone after.

It's complicated, but there is a vast difference between the enterprise scale products and many of the low end products sited in the article. Aurum is a real and credible competitor. Onyx (possible IPO short term) is a viable mid market player.

However, enterprise integration between sales support, field service and dispatch and sophisticated integration with the business process is way out of the reach of these smaller competitors. That's the heart of the differentiation and too complex for me to bother with right now. Perhaps shege has some observations about moss micro.

Assertion: Front office applications have a greater strategic and business process importance than back office.

I have heard some rumors of Vantive/Sales Logix interaction since vntv is supposedly falling down on the SFA side of things.
