This snippet was in the latest issue of the Voodoo Review newsletter: (http://www.voodoomag.com) ======================= COUNTDOWN TO COMDEX ======================= Banshee 2? Rampage...?? Avenger...??? Just what IS this COMDEX announcement going to be???? In case you just walked into this party, all the excitement and buzz is about 3Dfx announcing their third generation hardware next week (November 16th ) at COMDEX, the computer industry trade-show. As I mentioned in the last VR, 3Dfx has promised to "knock our socks off". Now everyone is speculating about what is actually going to be announced. Some jaded people who were disappointed with October's "monkey" announcement feel its going to be nothing more then an improved Banshee, with maybe TV out, faster memory, etc. Others are guessing that the secret to the code-name "Rampage" will be revealed with a completely new killer 2d/3d card that will leave all other 3D accelerators gasping to catch up. Then up pops code-name "AVENGER" with proposed specs on websites... is this the same thing as Rampage or something different? THE ANSWER IS... I don't know. Sorry. Everything at this point is just speculation and rumors. 3Dfx ain't talking, and I even said "pretty please"! So if you read the RUMORS, keep in mind that as of this week they are just RUMORS and nothing else. Our man William Ball is on the assignment to find out what the deal is on the 16th, so hopefully all will be revealed. I hope it's half as killer as the rumors indicate... (btw, if you are going to COMDEX this year stop by the 3Dfx both number 3650 for a chance to win some Diamond Monster3D 2 boards and possibly test out your Quaking metal against champion Dennis "Thresh" Fong.) ====================== Chip
