The Portico disc that comes with the service welcome kit includes Microsoft Explorer 4.0. I believe Magic Talk V.U.I is embedded in Microsoft 98. Magic Talk is the cutting edge VUI technology. Here's how I see it! MSFT,QCOM,Bell South mobile communication's and GMGC is right in the middle of it!! Refer to SI message 4035 regarding news. This may give you some other thoughts as to where this may be heading!

Don't panic over some of the jibberish on the Yahoo!

Austin,

I've followed the MSFT/QCOM deal closely. This has absolutely
nothing to do with GMGC in its present form. It's
nonetheless an area of interest of mine. HDML (one of the core W3C technologies which makes this deal possible) was
originally pioneered by Unwired Planet. Very cool stuff,
and in certain domains superior to voice (although it
is clear that HDML will need VUI support too). My
boyfriend worked with HDML and Unwired Planet early on
in it's development. And the Unwired Planet CEO, Alain Rossman,
is very close with GMGC - in fact, his wife was an exec
at GMGC and I worked with HER (are you getting all this?).
Further, some of the carrier types involved in this deal
were also involved in the early formation of GMGC telescript
network. And, I expect, they'll also be involved with Portico.
So it is all quite a tangled web. Believe me, everyone
knows everyone in this effort, especially Markman.

Anyway, it is interesting stuff, but I can't imagine
how the Yahoos think it is competitive. Nor am I going
over there to look. Haven't peeked into Yahoo for months,
for fear I might not make it back out. Kidnapped by
demons, or something.

Well, onward to the Big Day. We live in interesting times.
