Problem solved? <<Oh please... Give the kids some education and some condoms. End of problem!>> How can you still hold on to that in this day and age when we are responsible for 1.5 million abortions per year and teen parenting is at an astronomically high rate. This is in an era when you can't begin to thrive in our society without specialized skills and higher education. These people and there children have three strikes against them before even stepping up to the plate. I was a high school teacher when this agenda was ushered in to the public schools. The idea being, they are doing "it" or they are going to be doing "it" anyway, so they should be educated about their own safety. At that time, pregnancies were a rare thing prior to graduation from high school. The thing we forgot about was that children at this age are very inconsistent. Most are struggling to form a values base. The go back and forth between the traditional values of home, whatever those are, and what their peers are addressing. In general, they didn't take this agenda as a concern for their safety, they took it as permission to go for it. It is a mixed message at best. This age is a time of indecision about standards to live by, not a time usually noted for using best judgement. So, now these children are grown up; never having felt there was "a problem" and told not to worry because we're providing you with a safety net. They now consider the problem solved, why wouldn't they. Plenty of time and opportunity for sex aids and the clinic. No need or time to think about it, let alone worry about it. After all, "The Problem" is solved. Isn't it??? Maybe we have a different definition of "the problem."
