Glenayre Provides MVP System For Iridium(R) Ground Network

Contract With Motorola Includes Twelve Worldwide Gateways

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The Integrated Network Group of Glenayre Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: GEMS - news) announced today that Glenayre's MVP® modular voice processing system has been implemented by Motorola's Ground Systems Division for the deployment of voice messaging and enhanced services for the Iridium gateway network.

The Glenayre MVP enhanced services system is installed in the 12 initial worldwide Iridium gateways. The installation is in conjunction with a contract that Glenayre initially received from Motorola's Satellite Communications Group (SATCOM) in early 1997. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Part of Motorola's Communications Enterprise, SATCOM is the prime contractor for the Iridium System. Glenayre's MVP enhanced services platform was chosen by Motorola SATCOM to serve as a Messaging Origination Controller (MOC) for the deployment of voice messaging and enhanced services for the Iridium gateway network. Glenayre's MVP system is providing features that will enhance the messaging capabilities of the Iridium offering. Applications provided through the MVP platform include voice and fax messaging, numeric and alpha numeric paging, and short message notification.

Commercial service will be offered in every country that has authorized Iridium services.
