Oracle could learn a lesson from Craig Barrett at Intel. He's doing everything he possibly can do to raise shareholder value. He's preannounced two quarters in a row, timing them to cause massive short squeezes. Caution has been thrown to the wind. I'm not sure that Ellison has the same sense of urgency as Barrett. Oracle plods along, taking the longest time to break back over 30. And we're still way off from the all-time high. Instead of wasting money on cute but largely ineffectual brand-building advertisements (Wake up: ORCL is NOT a consumer business!), I'd like to see ORCL focus on shareholders. (Of course, I suppose I'm ignoring the fact that Intel has seen a pick-up in demand that enables them to pump up the price; maybe ORCL is stuck with mediocre business fundamentals.)
