One problem with I see long term with the Ebay approach is Fraud.
I'm speaking of Fraud on the part of the people selling stuff at the
auctions. When you buy something from Ebay you send a check or money order
to the selling party. If they never send you the merchandise you're
screwed.

As with any scheme, some rip-off artists will try to scam people. Once
there are significant press reports out, people will be scared to
buy from this type of auction.

An on-line auction company that comes up with an approach to avoid fraud
will be a bigger winner. Maybe Ebay will change their approach and be that
winner or maybe someone else will.
