It's not clear why SL would even want to associate with Vantive right now. They recently purchased a company that makes customer support SW.

Regarding the PC Week article. It's in PC Week, not Enterprise Systems Week. Of course the guy doesn't understand scalability.

Having said that, there are probably 100x more customers for souped-up contact managers than for full-blown SFA systems with opportunity management, sales configuration etc. Furthermore the ordinary salesperson can see the value in a contact manager; few see the value (to them) of the full-blown systems. I think we've had this discussion before. Net net: stratification, with Siebel controlling the top tier, lots and lots of competition in the middle tier. Very hard for new entrants to break in (e.g. repackaged Brock).

Everyone hear about Oracle's purchase of Concentra? Smart move. SAP purchased K&V. What does this mean for Selectica, Trilogy and Calico? Siebel (partner of Concentra) isn't going to be too happy working with Oracle, so I can see them buying their own product configurator.
