LoD, what would prevent Cpq from setting up a portion of their company with a BTO with a Direct Business Model. In other words, segment the company and take advantage of the BTO/Direct Model as well as the traditional retail sales channels? As far as being expensive...I'm not so sure this is true. However, given its true, Cpq has the financial resources to undertake the program. Its a question of their ROI on implementing the Dell business model.

LOD,
Hi!!!

RE: We can't blame them for trying to copy a winning strategy. The failure will be that lack of total adoption of the direct model across-the-board. Not to mention that there's more to being direct than setting up a phone number and website. Manufacturing has to be completely re-thought (sounds expensive to me).
