BTW The reason Jesse was included in the debates is because Humphrey demanded it. The Humphrey camp thought Jesse would drain more Rep voters than Dem's.

What nobody foresaw was that Jesse attracted people who would not have normally voted. The MN Secretary of state predicted that less than 50% eligible voters would turn out. Actually it was an astonishing 63%.

OT - MN's history with 3rd parties.

The Democrat party in Mn. is officially called the Democratic Farmer Labor party - DFL.

In the thirties, the Farmer Labor party was established for very familiar reasons - neither the Dems nor the Reps were seen as responsive to the people. And they succeeded in electing a Governor - Floyd Olson.

In light of the past election, it is somewhat ironic that Hubert Humphrey the second engineered a merger of the Dems and the FLs.

60 years latter, a third party is established because the Dems nor the Reps were seen as responsive to the people. And they succeeded in electing a Governor - Jesse Ventura.
