Since Auric is out, "boxed" means you have an equal number of shares long and short. Example: you short 100 shares of XYZ, and then buy 100 shares of XYZ, but not to cover the short. In effect, you have no position at all, and thus a move in either direction will result in no gain or loss, assuming you close both positions at the same time. It's a strategy to protect yourself when you don't know which way the stock is headed, but want to keep some shares short (in case they get scarce at some point).
