Joey,
Could you direct me to an article stating that AMD processors were ever considered for this new Compaq line of computers?

Joey,

Rumors had it that Compaq might go with AMD chips

1. It seems unlikely that AMD currently has the fab capacity required to serve the business marketplace.

2. The consumer and business divisions at Compaq are completely separate units.

Joey - Re: "Well, Compaq is going with all Celeron A/PII systems for both desktops and notebooks.."

You are correctomundo - I just checked out Compaq's Prosignia WebSite - pure Intel Inside.

My guess is two compelling factors entered into the Intel choice:

1. Businesses are the target market & businesses prefer Intel - stability and long term reputation for quality & reliability & performance.

2. JIT - Intel has the PRORVEN manufacturing expertise to deliver CPUs in a Build To Order (BTO) Just in Time (JIT) production program.
