It's easy in the face of a protracted decline in share value to wax morose and stare into the abyss. But as the gloom begins to clear, the visionaries, able to see beyond the current fog of despair, will be the first to realize the opportunity and take action.

If you liked AAPL at 39, then it really looks attractive at 33 1/2.

The uncertainty surrounding the survivability of the Mac OS platform has always been the source of volatility for this stock. Nothing has really changed in that respect. MSFT and Mr. Gates needs Apple as much now as ever; perhaps more now than ever. After all, the Mac OS is the only MSFT OS competitor that does not compete head to head in the Intel wonderland.

Besides, that old song of their demise is really too tired to get much air play now.

Egads!

I am just wondering for how long can AAPL survive. They were about to die without the help of microsoft, as testified by Tevanian. If this is the case, why the hell they are standing against their savior.

Savior? Microsoft got caught pirating the QuickTime code red handed (they also got caught pirating a compression program several years before that). Microsoft then has the balls to threaten discontinuing Office if APPL continues with their plans to sue them for several billion dollars for industrial piracy and espionage. THEN, Microsoft decides that if they can't have QT, then nobody can have QT and builds undocumented incompatibilities into IE4.

Yeah, some savior.

I think microsoft this time will not support them anymore and everyone will again sing the old song of their demise.

Wrongo! As part of the piracy deal, MS agreed to supply timely and well written versions of Office (they must match or exceed the 'doze version) for the next 5 years. The only way for MS to stop developing the Mac version is for them to also stop developing the 'doze version, which aint gonna happen.

very disappointing from apple as usual...

Why? I always thought that Steve was waiting for the right time to kick Bill in the balls...it's Avi's turn now. When Steve strikes, MS had better watch out...

AAPL had a long way to go from liquidation, even before the MSFT investment. They were sitting on a ton of cash.
MSFT's investment was a token, at best. It confirmed the need for competition, and shored up AAPL's viability in the investment community.
Tev's testimony was not AAPL standing against their savior, but rather standing against the person who has tossed a drowning man a rope and told him to put it around his neck while he was pulled to safety. AAPL needed the rope, but not the additional baggage that was commensurate with the "investment".
As for MSFT, they have no complaints. They have managed to make some pretty good money off their investment, and have used it to cow AAPL somewhat. Now that AAPL is making noise again, they are using the investment as leverage.

Remember, MSFT isn't against ideas that oppose theirs. MSFT is against the spreading of ideas that oppose theirs.
