The cluster enhancements in 8i mean that you can build an incredibly large memory configuration with users automatically routed to the least busy node. The parallel server node inter-node communication mechanisms appear to have been changed to eliminate the deadly 'pinging' between nodes where users on different nodes access common database blocks.

Eliminating the pinging and adding a resource balancing front end greatly simplifies building extremely large memory/cpu configurations. Want to grow from 1000 concurrent users to 2000 concurrent user? Add another node. Worried about contention for database blocks? Not anymore...

Very cool.

they will not hesitate to buy companies to be the market leader.

Yeah and its about time. Its obvious this is the winning strategy for bay area technology companies vs. the NIH attitude that Oracle had for the longest time. Plus Oracle has a good architecture for acquisitions (unlike Sap).

ttf: when did you go long on Orcl... I have a small long position, think I should add here?
