[telecom israel exhibition]

hi savo,

here are a few interesting things from Orckit booth where Dan Arazi was present:

1. no joint demos with lucent though it was present, nor with intc. The demos were with Israeli application system provider as it was reported in the co's press release...nice demo of IP-telephony over HDSL...as well as video-on-demand on VDSL...and electronic commerce on ADSL. No g.lite stuff was shown.

2. on silicon news...the co' on track for the new ADSL chipset for 01/99...and it looks like the VDSL chipset is ready (and prototyped by Siemens).

3. as reported by Tamir in the last cc, the co' delivers now its new plastic-box ADSL modem...nice stuff and quite small. I was told the new modems have been available for sale for one month now...but it should have a limited effect on cost reduction...as we know the major cost reduction milestone will come from the new chipset.

4. on Lucent win in Ireland, I was told Orckit was not involved...but it could play some role as a sub in the near future.

5. on the france telecom tender I was told the company is jointly bidding with big names.

actually, my general impression was quite positive...I wish I could own some shares from the $10 level we saw in the latest market crash...time will tell...

till later,

SoMo
