NEWS !!! New Pricing Strategy Generates Added Interest in Thin-Client Technology
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Boundless Technologies, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Boundless Corporation (Nasdaq: BDLS) and the largest U.S. manufacturer of text and Windows-based terminals and other thin-client solutions, has introduced its Windows(R) CE based Viewpoint(R) TC 3xx series Windows-based terminals and initiated a new pricing strategy for the Viewpoint technology. "The best-in-class features found in our new Viewpoint TC 3xx series, coupled with our new pricing structure, provide compelling benefits to end-users considering server-based computing and thin-client technology," said Mike Stebel, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Boundless Technologies, Inc. "For users in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, retail, finance and education, Windows-based terminals in a server-based computing environment are the most manageable, cost-effective, secure and reliable way to deliver applications throughout the enterprise and branch offices," added Mr. Stebel. "Along with our strategic partners Citrix Systems and Microsoft, we are helping our channel partners open new doors for this important technology by providing end-users with Windows-based terminals offering exceptional value." The Viewpoint TC 3xx series combines the low cost, hassle-free administration and security of traditional text terminals with the familiar, easy-to-use Windows NT(R) Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition graphical user interface and capabilities needed to run Windows applications. Applications reside and are executed on an application server accessed by users as needed. "We are pleased to see that the Boundless Viewpoint TC 3xx series is available and will support our efforts to bring the benefits of Windows to terminal users," said Solveig Whittle, lead product manager, Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) "Boundless' continued commitment to delivering easy-to-administer, software-upgradeable, low cost thin-clients will help make the Windows-based terminal category a success." "The Boundless TX 3xx series will provide customers with more choices to meet their enterprise computing needs," said Janice Roberts, director of client business development, Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS). "These low-cost, easy-to-manage devices, in conjunction with Citrix WinFrame and MetaFrame server-based computing software, will help customers reduce total cost-of-ownership and improve productivity. We look forward to continuing to deliver innovative solutions with Boundless." The Viewpoint TC 3xx series Windows-based Terminals (consisting of three software configurations -- Model 300, Model 320, Model 325) are all powered by the Microsoft(R) Windows CE operating system. The Viewpoint TC Model 300 supports Microsoft's Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), the standard presentation protocol built into Microsoft's Terminal Server. The Model 320 adds support for the Citrix Independent Computing Architecture (ICA(R)) protocol for access to Citrix WinFrame(R) or MetaFrame(TM) application servers. The Model 325 adds local terminal emulation support, including IBM 3270/5250, SCO Console and many other emulations for access to UNIX and mainframe legacy systems. The Viewpoint TC Model 320 enables users to run multiple Citrix ICA and Microsoft RDP sessions simultaneously and "hot switch" among the sessions without losing connection to the server(s). The Viewpoint TC 3xx series offers optional software that provides the localized emulation of a broad range of ANSI and IBM terminals. The end-user list price for the Viewpoint TC 3xx series starts at $549, a new and significantly lower price point made possible by Boundless' manufacturing efficiency. Boundless also reduced the price of its ICA-supporting Viewpoint TC Model 200 to a list price of $549. The Viewpoint TC 3xx series passed Microsoft's compliance test for Windows-based terminals and earned the Powered by Windows CE Windows-based Terminal logo. The logo program is administered and tests are conducted by NSTL, Inc., a division of CMP Media. NSTL is the leading independent computer testing organization, and it is Microsoft's authorized Windows-based terminals test facility. "The Viewpoint TC 3xx series meets the requirements for the logo and passes the Microsoft test," said Lawrence Goldstein, vice president and general manager, NSTL, Inc. "Boundless' participation in this compliance testing process shows that they are committed to producing quality products. The Microsoft logo provides assurances to users of this key technology that the product meets high industry standards." Launched in 1997, the Viewpoint TC family, along with the innovative Viewpoint Administrator management utility and unique client-side software, provides remote management upgrades and configuration of all versions of the Viewpoint TCs. Boundless was the first thin-client manufacturer to conceptualize and develop a "customer-paced" software-only upgrade path for expanding access to additional computing environments, eliminating the need to replace desktop hardware and protecting the end user's investment. Since each Viewpoint version is based on a single common Intel-compatible x86 hardware platform, customers can purchase the Viewpoint model that best fits their current needs, then expand later to the capabilities of other configurations via software-only updates.
