My opinion, Dan, is to do what I did. particularly considering your relatively low level needs while on the road.

I bought a Compaq Armada in August from Egghead Auction for $999 - P150, 12.1 TFT screen, 2.1 HD, 33.6 modem, 16MB Ram and put another 64 MB RAM into it for $120.

I can run RealTick III, browsers and Excel simultaneously.

I tend to like Egghead because their operation is run out of Hood River, OR, near me and I know the general attitudes there are good and friendly. I had a solid experience.

Don't mistake me for an expert, though.

Peter

I agree with Peter that auctions are a great place to get notebooks. I've gotten mine this way. You might check ebay, onsale, and dealdeal.com. Definitely agree that you want the $1500 range for your needs.

Dave
