Yep, I know of this company. It's private, and going up against the likes of LU.  Silkroad is a ant compared to LU. Still, the concept has been tested on a 60 mile fiber and it works.

Jeff,

Sounds like a potential CSCO acquisition. I'm personally not familiar with the company (not a RMBS competitor, btw.)

Jeff,

If you can obtain a copy of the November 4 issue of Investor's Business Daily, you'll find an article entitled, "Start-Up Hopes To Shed More Light On Photonics." A few excerpts:

"SilkRoad Inc., a privately held company, claims it has a cheaper, faster way to use fiber optics to transmit voice data and video. . .The San Diego start-up Tuesday unveiled a new method of transmitting information using photonics, which uses light particles called photons. . . It will compete against other ways of speeding Internet access and data communications, such as cable modems and digital subscriber line technology. . . SilkRoad is targeting an emerging method of using fiber optics to send data called dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM). . . SilkRoad claims its technology can provide 10 times more bandwidth than DWDM at about half the price . . . It hasn't yet made a sale, but SilkRoad says it's in talks with nine telecom providers and corporations. It plans to start selling the system early next year."

I apologize to everybody for the long post on an off-topic subject. Just trying to help Jeff out.

:-) Kenny

Jeff, Here is a link to an article about Silk Road. Also, did you know you can do a text search on the last 4 months of SI posts? (Look at the bottom of this page) There are several posts referencing "silk road".
