I think DIMD ran from $3-$6 too quickly, a good pull back would be most welcomed.

Business Wire - November 12, 1998 15:12
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 1998--

Diamond Elevates Professional Graphics Business Unit to Full Division Status

Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:DIMD), a leader in interactive multimedia, today announced an exclusive agreement with IBM to supply a series of professional graphics accelerators based on IBM's graphics architecture to the Windows NT workstation market.

Diamond also announced that its Professional Graphics Business Unit will be given full division status within the company, and will focus its development and marketing efforts exclusively on the IBM architecture.

Under terms of the agreement, Diamond Multimedia will license a new generation of high-performance graphics chipsets from IBM. The new chipsets will be featured by Diamond in its line of professional graphics accelerators and marketed under the popular Fire GL brand. Diamond Multimedia expects to begin sample product shipments for OEM evaluation in November 1998 and commence volume production during the first quarter of 1999.

"IBM has been designing graphics chipsets for more than 16 years, 12 of which have been on the UNIX workstation platform," said Ian Cartwright, vice president and general manager of Diamond Multimedia's Professional Graphics Division. "We believe that IBM's future graphics chipsets will build upon their foundation in UNIX to offer an optimal level of performance for the most demanding Windows NT-based professional 3D applications. We have been working closely with the IBM team to facilitate the integration of their newest technology into our Fire GL line of professional graphics accelerators, and we look forward to continuing to build our relationship with this world-class professional graphics team."

"The Diamond Fire GL brand is a widely recognized name in the Windows NT professional graphics space," said John Blyzinskyj, director of business development, IBM Server Group. "Diamond Multimedia has demonstrated its expertise in 3D graphics driver and board design through the receipt of numerous product awards. By working with Diamond, we can extend our workstation graphics technology beyond the UNIX environment."

"This agreement with IBM and our consequent focus on the IBM professional graphics architecture are reflective of Diamond Multimedia's drive toward investing our development and marketing resources in more proprietary products and defensible market franchises," said Bill Schroeder, president and CEO of Diamond Multimedia.

The Diamond Fire GL brand of professional graphics accelerators is designed to enhance the productivity of Windows NT-based workstations. In addition to providing high-powered hardware, the new Fire GL accelerators will include performance-oriented 3D graphics drivers with settings optimized for various ISV (independent software vendor) applications and a suite of customized software tools. Additional product details, such as pricing and configurations, will be provided at a later date.
